The Wedding Preservation Process: How It Works

Your Preservation Journey

At Honest Bloom Studio, we believe your flowers deserve to live far beyond the day they were carried. We preserve blooms from weddings, anniversaries, memorials, pet memorials, garden favorites, and other meaningful moments. We also specialize in Recreation Artwork, allowing us to create a Heirloom Keepsake from a cherished photograph. If you no longer have the original flowers, we can help source the same varieties and recreate the floral artwork from the moment you wish you could have saved.

Our approach is simple and thoughtful, shaped by a genuine love of flowers and a commitment to creating heirlooms that feel personal and accessible for every couple. Whether you choose an economy option or an elite design, there is a beautiful way to honor your story.

HOW IT WORKS:

Inquire → Book → Send → Preserve → Design → Receive

Our process is slow and intentional. First, reserve your date. After your special event, send or drop off your bouquet. We preserve and design your heirloom, then send you a layout proof for your review before finishing the framing. Your completed art piece will then be ready for pick-up or shipping. Read more about our Preservation Process Steps below.

TIMELINE:

Most pieces are completed within four to six months, with longer timelines during busy seasons. Each heirloom receives more than 25 hours of dedicated care and is a true investment in the beauty of your love story. Since each piece takes many hours to make, we accept only a limited number of bouquets each month, so be sure to reserve early. Read more about the slow and intentional art of preserving flowers below.

OPTIONS:

We offer a range of preservation options to suit every style and budget, from our occasional limited‑time Heirloom Bloom Offers to our full-frame packages. Our Elite Frames provide the highest heirloom quality with standard color correction and museum‑quality acrylic, while our Economy options offer a beautiful, budget‑friendly way to preserve your blooms. Choose from Standard frames with archival mat board and UV acrylic, modern Floating frames, or Shadowbox designs that showcase your flowers in their full three‑dimensional beauty. There is truly an option for every client, and we love working with you to create something meaningful.

Event Inquiry

Did you know a flower lover is called an anthophile?

Anthos means “flower” in Greek, and phile means “lover” or “one who loves.” Together, anthophile describes someone who treasures the beauty and meaning of blooms.

Flowers are placed in handmade presses within 24 hours and receive daily attention during the first few weeks to ensure proper drying. If going with a shadow box, each flower is carefully selected for the best drying method.

Pressed flowers remain in the press for up to four months or until we are ready to start designing. If you're working with a tighter timeline, shadow box frames are a great option—dimensional flowers often require less drying time than pressed blooms.

Each preservation artwork takes several months to complete and includes more than 25 hours of hands-on pressing, drying, design, and gluing, where every bloom is thoughtfully placed.

Before finalizing, you’ll receive a layout to review and may request up to two rounds of edits. Once approved, the design becomes permanent.

We preserve your blooms naturally, so some flowers may fade, deepen, or shift in tone and may continue to do so over time. This transformation is part of the beauty of preserving real flowers.

Note: Our Elite Frames come with museum-quality acrylic, color correction, and the highest level of preservation possible.

Preservation Hours Timeline:

THE SLOW ART OF FLOWER PRSERVATION:

Flower preservation is a slow, intentional art form. Each piece is unique, handmade, and requires many hours of delicate, detail‑focused work. Timelines vary by bouquet size and frame choice; this sample workflow shows the journey your heirloom will take.

The hours spent sourcing the highest‑quality frames, collaborating with women‑owned partners when possible, and handling administrative work aren’t included here, but understanding the process helps couples see the true value behind their investment. Once flowers are fully dried, they are safely stored until it is their time for reconstruction and design. Average turnaround is 4–6 months, with extended timelines during busy seasons.

WHY IT'S AN INVESTMENT:

Your bouquet is more than flowers—it’s a piece of your wedding day you can hold onto. Preservation transforms something fleeting into something lasting, for couples who want to honor their story, remember the beauty of their day, and create an heirloom to pass down. This work protects your blooms so they can be displayed and cherished for decades.

WHAT GOES INTO YOUR HEIRLOOM:

Each step requires time, skill, and careful attention:

  • Pressing (3–6 hours): Flowers are prepared and pressed with close monitoring.
  • Drying (6–8 weeks): Blooms dry slowly over several weeks, with materials changed daily.
  • Reconstruction (2–8 hours): Pressed flowers are rebuilt as needed; color correction is applied when included.
  • Designing (3–6 hours): Your layout is created based on size and style, and the proofing process happens here.
  • Mounting (2–5 hours): Flowers are adhered in archival layers, allowing careful drying time between each.
  • Framing (1–2 hours): Frames are sealed with attention to detail; Standard frames offer the highest archival protection.

If this feels like the right investment for your story, you’re welcome to inquire about your wedding date and begin the process of preserving your cherished blooms.
