Flower Care: How to Keep Your Flowers Fresh

Simple steps to keep your blooms fresh and ready for preservation on your big day.

BEFORE THE EVENT:

  • Keep Cool: Store flowers in a shaded, cool space away from direct sunlight, heat, or drafts.
  • Skip the Fridge: Unless advised by your florist, avoid refrigeration—cold can damage certain blooms.
  • Ask Your Florist: Tell your florist that you plan to preserve your flowers. Get personalized care tips to keep your bouquet looking its best.

ON THE DAY:

  • Limit Handling: Hold your bouquet only when needed. Between photos and events, rest it in water or a hydration wrap.
  • Avoid Heat and Wind: Don’t leave flowers in hot cars or exposed outdoor areas—even brief exposure can cause wilting.
  • Don’t Toss the Bouquet: If you’d like to preserve your wedding bouquet, consider a separate bouquet for the toss tradition.

AFTER THE EVENT:

  • Trim and Hydrate: Cut stems at a 45° angle (about ½") and place them in clean, cool water.
  • Preserve the Memory: Drop off or ship your bouquet within 24–48 hours. The sooner we receive it, the sooner we can begin preservation.

Packing Materials & How to Pack Your Flowers

If you're sending your bouquet to Honest Bloom Studio for preservation, follow these steps to ensure it arrives safely and beautifully.

 WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

  • Large box (12×12×12 or 16×16×16)
  • Additional small box (optional)
  • Ziplock bags or plastic wrap
  • Rubber bands
  • 2–3 rolls of paper towels
  • Plastic cup
  • Tape

PREP BEFORE PACKING:

For best results, follow our flower‑care tips during your event.

  • Cut stems ½–1 inch at an angle and place them in clean water until you are ready to ship.
  • Wrap stems only in wet paper towels, ensuring the bottoms are fully covered.
  • Place wrapped stems inside a Ziplock bag and secure with a rubber band to keep flowers hydrated during shipping.
  • (If you are shipping air‑dried flowers, skip the hydration step.)

PACKING YOUR FLOWERS:

  1. Use a 12×12×12 or 16×16×16 box (or slightly larger).
  2. Tape a smaller box to the bottom of the larger box, large enough to hold the stems but not the greenery/flowers. This is optional, but it helps stabilize the bouquet during shipping.
  3. Place flowers in the center of the box.
  4. Keep the bouquet upright to protect the petals and avoid squishing.
  5. Wrap blossoms loosely with dry paper towels.
  6. Do not use brown paper or bubble wrap — they trap heat.
  7. Exposed flowers are perfectly fine.
  8. Fill gaps around the bouquet with loose, crumpled paper towels (sheets only, no full rolls) to prevent shifting.
  9. Complete and include your Bridal Shipment Form & tape it to the inside box lid.
  10. Do not send extra or unnecessary items unless they will be used in your final design — nothing is returned.
  11. Refer to our recommended flower quantities for your chosen frame size to ensure you send enough blooms.
  12. A How-To-Shipping Video is coming soon.

FLOWER HEADS:

  • Create a soft nest of dry paper towels inside the container.
